Latest updates about international bear weeks and holiday events!
The first big bear event of 2025 is about to happen! Each year, on the weekend around the third Saturday in January, Hamburg comes alive with one of the most anticipated events for the German gay bear community—the Bärenpaadiie, also known as Bearpaadiie or simply Hamburg's bear party. Hosted by Nordbären Hamburg, this festival has grown from modest origins to become one of the most significant celebrations for bears and their friends in Germany. From January 16th to 19th, 2025, this gathering will once again take over Hamburg with an exciting lineup of activities and events.
The story of the Bärenpaadiie began over two decades ago with a simple disco event at the MHC on Borgweg. The founders of Nordbären sought to create a welcoming space for the emerging bear scene, unaware that it would blossom into a massive cultural phenomenon attracting up to 1,600 attendees annually. As the event grew, it moved to the Markthalle, which has since become synonymous with the festival. Despite the venue being packed to capacity each January, its unique charm and loyal team, led by event manager Evelyn, have ensured it remains the home of the Bärenpaadiie XXL.
In addition to the main party, the festival now features a diverse program of events, including a sauna day, bowling, a boat tour, and the beloved Sunday Brunch.
Thursday, January 16th: Start the celebrations with the Early Bears at Tom’s Saloon.
Friday, January 17th: Enjoy a relaxing sauna session at Dragon Sauna followed by the Giant Welcome Club party at Uebel & Gefährlich.
Saturday, January 18th: Choose between a lively bowling competition at U.S. Fun Bowling or a scenic boat ride with the Bärenboot on the Elbe.
Saturday Night: Experience the main event, Bärenpaadiie XXL, at the Markthalle.
Sunday, January 19th: Wrap up the weekend with a delicious Bear Brunch at Körri.
